A 42-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Joel Folorunso, was on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N750,000 from his employer.
The defendant, who has no fixed address, is facing charges of malicious damage, fund conversion, and breach of peace.
The prosecutor, Insp. Olubu Apata, informed the court that the defendant committed the alleged offences in October 2024 at Oke-Bola Area, Ado-Ekiti, around 9:00 a.m.
He stated that Folorunso maliciously damaged a hunter motorcycle worth N50,000, which belonged to the complainant, Adewumi Ajijola.
According to Apata, the complainant had given the motorcycle to the defendant for daily remittances, but the defendant failed to make payments until his arrest.
Between October 2024 and March 30, 2025, the defendant allegedly converted N750,000 meant for his employer to personal use.
The prosecution further alleged that the defendant’s actions constituted conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
The offences, Apata noted, violate Sections 354 and 295(a)(b) and are punishable under Sections 302 and 181(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He requested an adjournment to allow for proper case review and witness preparation.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
His counsel, Opeyemi Esan, applied for bail, assuring the court that his client would not abscond.
Chief Magistrate Taiwo Ajibade granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety of equal amount, who must be a member of the Landlord Association in Ado-Ekiti.
The case was adjourned to May 2 for hearing.
