A Chinese defence spokesperson on Wednesday said Japan’s rapid military buildup, including the development of offensive weapons and equipment, has triggered vigilance and concern worldwide.
Jiang Bin made the remarks at a regular press conference in response to a media query on the record defence budget request recently submitted by Japan’s Ministry of Defence.
He recalled that 80 years ago, the aggressive war initiated by Japanese militarists had caused immense suffering across Asian nations.
“Today, the resolve of regional countries to defend peace is stronger than ever, and we will not allow Japanese militarism to make a comeback,” Jiang said.
The spokesperson urged Japan to reflect on its history of aggression and to respect the security concerns of its Asian neighbours as well as the wider international community.
