The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) has emphasised the importance of adhering to its governing laws.
Mr Henry Mbadiwe, CIPMN’s Registrar, said this at the institute’s inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Abuja on Thursday, following a three-day conference with the theme “Project Management: The Universal Language of Success”.
Mbadiwe, who said that such a step was crucial toward addressing the prevalence of quackery in the project management profession, also stressed the need for strict compliance to professional regulations.
According to him, the institute has outlined strategic measures to prevent non-registered practitioners from handling projects in Nigeria.
“This AGM provides an opportunity to address pressing issues within our profession.
“We are committed to working together with members and other relevant agencies to ensure that the institute fulfills its mission.
“This platform will serve as a foundation for capacity building and professional growth,” he said.
Also speaking, Mr Olabode Afolayan, the Council Chairman of CIPMN, reiterated the council’s determination to roll out proactive strategies from 2025 to curtail the rising incidence of abandoned projects.
Afolabi attributed the problem to the involvement of unqualified individuals in project management, which often leads to substandard outcomes.
“Across the nation, the consequences of poorly managed projects are visible. These issues arise when untrained and uncertified individuals take on responsibilities meant for professionals.
“Our council is poised to enforce existing regulations and ensure that only competent hands manage critical projects moving forward,” he said.
The chairman called for intensified awareness campaigns, particularly within the public sector, to highlight the importance of professional certification in delivering impactful and sustainable projects.
Afolabi described the AGM as a milestone for CIPMN, addimg that it is a platform for addressing critical challenges and setting a clear agenda for advancing professionalism in project management across Nigeria.
