Chijioke Ihunwo, the chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government, has dismissed criticisms from individuals who question his authority to address security matters within the area, particularly following the disbandment of the local security outfit, OSPAC (Omni-Bus Security Patrol and Community Vigilante).

During a recent meeting with the state leadership of OSPAC at his office, Ihunwo emphasized that as the chief security officer of the local government, he possesses the constitutional power to establish and disband security organizations as needed.

“I find it amusing that some doubt my authority to handle security issues in our locality. Let it be clear: I am empowered by law to take such actions,” he stated.

In light of the disbandment, Ihunwo has initiated plans to reinstate OSPAC, forming a committee to facilitate the recruitment process and profile interested members for the security outfit.

Emeka Onyeoca, the leader of OSPAC in Rivers State, expressed the group’s commitment to supporting Ihunwo’s efforts in creating a safer Obio Akpor. “We are here to work hand in hand with the local government to ensure peace and security in our community,” Onyeoca said.

Furthermore, Ihunwo announced intentions to allocate office space for OSPAC within the council secretariat, underscoring his commitment to enhancing local security and fostering collaboration with community stakeholders.
