A Karu Magistrates’ Court in Abuja has sentenced 20-year-old Emmanuel Solomon to one month in prison for stealing a mobile phone.

Magistrate Lami Sani handed down the sentence without an option of fine and cautioned Solomon to steer clear of criminal activities.

Solomon, a resident of Kugbo, Abuja, pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft.

Prosecution counsel, Olarewaju Osho, told the court that the complainant, Helen Omachonu of Karu, reported that Solomon unlawfully entered her laundry shop on July 13 and stole a Tecno mobile phone valued at ₦5,000.

Osho further revealed that in December 2024, Solomon had also stolen two rugs belonging to a customer from the same shop, an act caught on CCTV footage.

“During police investigations, Solomon confessed to both offences, and the stolen phone was recovered,” he said.

The offences contravene Sections 348 and 287 of the Penal Code.
