The Police Command in Lagos State says it has commenced investigation into a clash between some youths and police officers at Onosa community, Elemoro, Lekki area of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

He said six officers from Elemoro Division, while on routine patrol, encountered an irate mob.

“In the course of ensuring their own safety, the officers used their firearms, resulting in three individuals sustaining injuries. The injured were taken to hospital for treatment,” he said.

Hundeyin said Commissioner of Police, Mr Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a detachment of officers to the scene, cleared barricades and restored traffic flow.

He said Jimoh also met with youth and community leaders, urging peace and inviting them to continued dialogue to address grievances and prevent future unrest.

Hundeyin added that the officers involved in the shooting had been taken into custody as investigations continue.

“Normalcy has been restored and significant police presence remains in place to sustain peace and order,” he said.

He urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with law enforcement and avoid actions capable of disturbing public peace.

According to him, further updates will be provided as investigation progresses.
