Residents of Ban Ogoi in the Tai Local Government Area are calling on the Nigeria Petroleum Development Company (NPDC) and other multinational corporations to recognize their community as landlords. This plea was made during a protest held at the NPDC gas facility situated in the area, where residents voiced their concerns and grievances.
During the demonstration, community members expressed their frustration over NPDC’s alleged failure to engage them in discussions concerning ongoing projects in their locality. Godwin Jumu, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), represented the residents in articulating their grievances. He accused NPDC of neglecting the youth in the community and pointed out that despite the presence of multiple companies in the area, the people are still living in darkness.
Emmanuel Gbaawa, the Youth President of Ban Ogoi, echoed these sentiments, criticizing NPDC for its continued disregard for the community’s needs and concerns. The residents are demanding greater recognition and engagement from NPDC and a commitment to improving their living conditions.
