Team Nigeria ended its badminton campaign at the maiden African School Games in Algeria on a high note, clinching six medals comprising two gold, three silver, and one bronze.

Precious Adekunle delivered Nigeria’s first gold after outpacing her Egyptian rival with sharp tactics and agility in the girls’ singles final.

Edun Damilare added a second gold in the boys’ singles, showcasing resilience and skill in a tightly contested final.

The Adekunle sisters, Precious and Cynthia, reached the girls’ doubles final but narrowly lost, settling for silver after a strong performance.

In the mixed doubles, Edun David partnered with Cynthia Adekunle to claim another silver medal after an impressive display.

Nigeria’s mixed team event featured Ahmed Ayatulla and Masibau Faisat in a competitive semifinal against Tunisia.

Ayatulla secured a 3-1 win in the boys’ match, but Tunisia won the girls’ match 3-0 and the doubles 3-1, resulting in a 2-1 overall score that handed Nigeria the bronze medal.

Team Nigeria has now collected eight medals across four sports: two gold, four silver, and two bronze.

Athletics will be the next focus for Team Nigeria as the competition resumes on Friday.

Fifty-three countries are participating in the inaugural African School Games, which began on July 26 and will conclude on Aug. 5.
