ASUP Directs Polytechnic Lecturers to Resume Work Following Warning Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has announced that its members are expected to resume work on Monday, December 16, 2024. This directive comes as the union concludes a two-week warning strike that spanned from December 2 to December 15, 2024.

In a statement, ASUP President Shammah Kpanja explained that the decision to resume duties was made after the government failed to address nine critical items outlined in a work plan jointly developed with the union. These items are essential for resolving ongoing trade disputes between ASUP and government agencies.

Kpanja further noted that the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment had convened a conciliation meeting with the union to seek resolution to the issues at hand. He emphasized the importance of productive dialogue between the parties involved.

Looking ahead, the ASUP President revealed that another meeting is scheduled for January 23, 2025, to evaluate compliance and assess the progress made in addressing the union’s concerns.
