Six aspirants under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan North have rejected the alleged conduct of the party primaries held at an unofficial venue, insisting that no legitimate congress was convened.

In a communiqué addressed to the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, the aspirants expressed dissatisfaction with the process, citing the absence of a delegates’ congress as a constitutional prerequisite for a valid primary election.

The communiqué was signed by Olaleye Segun (Ward 11), Lapade Idris (Ward 5), Farouk Arisekola (Ward 5), Adekunle Oladeji (Ward 10), Saheed Aderounmu (Ward 8), and Khalil Mustapha (Ward 5). Copies were sent to President Bola Tinubu, APC National Executives, the National Working Committee, Delegates Congress Committee, State Chairman Alhaji Olayide Abas, Oyo APC Executives, the State Working Committee, INEC, and other stakeholders in the Ibadan North Federal Constituency.

The aspirants described the purported primary as “illegal, illegitimate, void and unacceptable,” adding that it breached the party’s electoral guidelines.

They said the APC leadership in Ibadan North had aligned with their stance, urging the public to disregard any claims from the alleged primary.

The group called on the APC National Working Committee to uphold internal democracy by ensuring a transparent and constitutionally compliant primary.

Reaffirming their loyalty to the party, they appealed for urgent intervention and a fair electoral process in the forthcoming constituency by-election. They also urged stakeholders to prioritise justice and fairness to restore confidence among party members in the constituency.
