Team Ekiti on Thursday won gold in male basketball at the ongoing National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Ekiti edged Lagos 19–18 in a keenly contested final. Both teams showed composure and determination, but Ekiti proved stronger to seal the win.
Reacting, Ekiti State Basketball Coach, Adetayo Awojinrin, expressed delight at the victory. “I am happy God crowned our efforts with success. In spite of the tough matches at the group stage, we were able to defeat Lagos in the final. I am proud of the team and I believe this success will inspire them to win more gold medals in future,” he said.
In Kungfu, Funbi Adedoyin secured bronze in the 48kg female category. Head coach Ronke Raji praised her performance despite the tough competition.
Also, para-athlete Suleiman Abdulazeez won gold in discus and silver in shot put.
NAN reports that three athletes from Team Ekiti have been invited by their various national federations. They are Abdulazeez Suleiman (para athletics), Precious Ayodele (Ayo Olopon) and Damilola Oni (cricket).
Team Ekiti now has two gold, three silver and three bronze medals.
