Olusola Osetoba, Technical Adviser to Gov. Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti on Sports Development, has commended Ekiti male basketball team for winning gold at the ongoing National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba, Delta.

The adviser, delighted with the team’s performance, said their determination and focus to defeat Team Lagos in the final despite the close points margin was highly commendable.

She explained that the team’s motivation stemmed from the governor’s commitment, noting that he had provided international-standard equipment for training and skill development.

“I want to commend our male basketball team for winning gold at the ongoing National Youth Games. I am happy and overwhelmed with joy because the final with Lagos was so close, yet they managed to win 19-18. This victory was motivated by Governor Oyebanji’s love for sports, and his efforts have yielded positive results. I appreciate him for giving our youths the opportunity to compete with their counterparts from across the federation,” she said.

Osetoba also urged the National Organising Committee of the Games to enforce strictly the designated U-15 age limit, stressing that sanctions should be applied to states presenting over-aged athletes in future editions.
