The Nigerian Army has adopted new techniques and procedures aimed at defeating terrorism and other security threats across the country, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has said.

Oluyede made this known on Wednesday in Bauchi during a firepower demonstration exercise held as part of the 2025 Combat Arms Training Week (CAT). He was represented at the event by Maj.-Gen. Henry Wesley, Commander of the Ordnance Corps.

He disclosed that the Federal Government had made significant investments in the procurement of modern equipment and weapons to support counter-insurgency operations.

“This particular event is very important because we have discussed strategies, operations and tactics. Ultimately, these must be reflected at the operational level,” he said.
“It is crucial for participants to see the actual capabilities we are deploying in the field.”

Oluyede added that the military’s improved combat capacity would intensify pressure on adversaries, noting that some of the newly acquired weapons were already being deployed while others were en route.

According to him, the firepower demonstration serves to familiarise officers with the army’s latest operational tools and their practical application in ongoing missions.

Also speaking, Maj.-Gen. Obinna Ajunwa, Commander of the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, said the week-long event provided a platform to address key issues concerning the operations of combat units.

He commended all officers and men in attendance, including retired senior officers who participated in the exercise.
