The Anambra State Government has called on private school proprietors to place greater emphasis on delivering quality education rather than focusing on financial gains.
The state Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, made the appeal at the opening of a four-day capacity-building workshop for private school owners and teachers in Awka.
She said the training was designed to equip participants with modern teaching and administrative skills required for 21st-century education, in line with Gov. Chukwuma Soludo’s vision for equitable and high-quality learning across the state.
Chuma-Udeh underscored the role of teacher quality and ongoing professional development, urging school proprietors to attend education seminars at least twice a year.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu, said the ministry would embark on monitoring visits to private schools to ensure compliance with training outcomes and approval standards.
At the workshop, facilitators highlighted different aspects of modern education. Dr. Bibianna Okoli stressed the need for a conducive learning environment, a clear mission and vision, and regular assessments. Dr. Tochukwu Melifeonwu introduced participants to the growing role of robotics in education.
