More than half of Americans now say the country’s best days are behind it as negative views toward both parties deepen. A recent CNN poll shows that a majority believe the US political system needs major reform or a complete overhaul. Many express disappointment not just with the opposition party but with their own side as well.
Democrats have recovered slightly from earlier low favorability but still face internal frustration. Many admit their party must change while remaining angry at Republicans. On the Republican side, support is steady but many voters are not enthusiastic — the dislike for the other side often outweighs pride in their own.
Independent voters are also drifting away. A large share say they are dissatisfied or indifferent toward both Democrats and Republicans. In this climate opposition and criticism dominate over positive belief.
This mood matters as elections approach. When voters are defined more by what they hate than what they hope for, turnout and messaging change. Parties must find ways to appeal not just to base anger but to fresh vision. It may be harder to win votes with resentment alone.
