The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Akwa Ibom has denied shielding one of its officers from an investigation into allegations of misconduct.
Mr Friday Ekerete, the Public Relations Officer for the NSCDC command in Akwa Ibom, made the statement during a press briefing in Uyo on Friday.
He stressed that it was not the command’s practice to interfere with investigations involving personnel accused of misconduct or corruption.
It was recently reported by an online medium that Mr Michael Asibor, the command’s Head of Anti-Vandal Operations, was involved in harassment, extortion, and illegal oil deals.
“The officer has an unbending disposition in the discharge of his official duties,” Ekerete stated, describing the report as malicious.
“The command is satisfied with his services; we believe in his capacity and capability to deliver assignments given to him,” he added.
Ekerete further clarified that the command had not received any formal petitions regarding corruption or misconduct against Asibor. He urged anyone who had previously submitted such petitions to resubmit them to the command.
He assured that the State Commandant of NSCDC, Bashar Hussaini, would ensure a thorough investigation into the allegations.
The spokesperson also called for due diligence when making allegations to prevent unfair damage to officers’ reputations.
