Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has departed the team’s camp in London to return to Nigeria due to personal reasons.
Correspondents observed that Musa was absent from the team’s training session on Thursday, with a few other players also opting out ahead of Saturday’s Unity Cup final.
The Super Eagles had defeated the Black Stars of Ghana 2–1 at the GTech Community Stadium on Wednesday in a previous fixture of the tournament.
Wilfred Ndidi, Cyril Dessers, and Semilore Ajayi were among those who missed Thursday’s training. Players who featured heavily in the match against Ghana underwent light recovery drills.
Notably, Benjamin Fredrick, a former player for ABS Ilorin FC and Nigeria’s U20 team, was seen at the training session. Fredrick, now with English Premier League side Brentford, was not originally invited but took part in the training under head coach Eric Chelle, who focused on tactical preparation.
The Super Eagles are set to face Jamaica in the final of the 2025 Unity Cup on Saturday. Jamaica advanced to the final after edging Trinidad and Tobago 3–2 in their own semi-final clash.
