The International Air Transport Association (IATA) Ground Handling Conference (IGHC) is set to hold in Africa for the first time, with Nairobi, Kenya, hosting the 37th edition from May 13 to May 15, 2025.

The Director-General of IATA, Mr. Willie Walsh, announced this in a statement on Wednesday, highlighting the conference’s focus on modernizing operations, workforce development, and strengthening coordination to improve aviation performance.

“Ground handling is critical for the safety, efficiency, and resilience of the entire aviation industry.

“The key word we will focus on at this year’s IGHC is ‘elevate’—driving better performance in the ground handling sector.

“That means modernizing operations, investing in the workforce, and enhancing collaboration so that ground handling can support aviation growth even more efficiently,” Walsh stated.

The event will be hosted by Kenya Airways and feature keynote addresses from Mr. Willie Walsh, IATA Director-General, Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of Kenya and Mr. Allan Kilavuka, CEO of Kenya Airways

According to Walsh, the conference will include plenary sessions, specialized tracks, and workshops, focusing on ground operations and the reliability of ground support equipment.

The IGHC serves as a global platform for aviation stakeholders to discuss and implement solutions for improved ground handling efficiency.
