The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has applauded Germany’s pledge of €1 billion to the Global Fund, describing it as a significant act of solidarity and leadership in global health.

Africa CDC Director-General, Dr Jean Kaseya, made this known during the ongoing World Health Summit in Berlin, Germany, on Sunday.

Kaseya said the investment would accelerate efforts to eradicate HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria, while enhancing pandemic preparedness and advancing universal health coverage across the continent.

He noted that the fund comes at a crucial moment as Africa intensifies the implementation of the New Public Health Order, which aims to strengthen national health systems and ensure equitable access to healthcare.

“This is a powerful act of solidarity and global leadership. It reaffirms the importance of shared responsibility in global health and will help build a more resilient and equitable Africa capable of preventing and responding to health threats,” he said.

According to him, the Global Fund remains an essential partner in Africa’s health landscape, supporting disease control programmes, laboratory systems, surveillance, and supply chain networks in many countries.

He added that Germany’s renewed commitment would enable African Union Member States to consolidate progress toward eliminating preventable deaths and achieving sustainable health security.

“Africa CDC welcomes this partnership as we continue to advance Africa’s New Public Health Order built on strong institutions, local manufacturing, and an empowered health workforce,” Kaseya added.

The Global Fund, established in 2002, is an international partnership dedicated to mobilising and investing resources to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, having saved more than 59 million lives worldwide.
