The Management of Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic, Aba, has abolished the issuance of statement of results and the sale of handouts to students.

Rector of the institution, Dr Christopher Okoro, said the move was aimed at streamlining processes, promoting efficiency, and reducing exploitation of students.

Formerly known as Abia State Polytechnic, Aba, the institution has digitalised its systems to enable students to access results online. Okoro explained that all results must now be uploaded six weeks after examinations.

“Once exams are over, all results must be uploaded six weeks after examination. So, students don’t need to go and meet the lecturer,” he said.

He further noted that certificates now come with QR codes, allowing employers to verify authenticity, thereby reducing bureaucracy.

“How will a student finish up after five years and you give the person paper and call it statement of results? The person will carry it, probably pay for clearance, and come back after years for certificates. And you still collect money again from the same person, and start looking for the files again. I said that is not right,” he stated.

Okoro disclosed that the polytechnic had cleared 36 months of salary arrears accumulated by previous administrations and improved infrastructure across the campus.

He added that the institution, which was once deregistered by the National Board for Technical Education, had now regained full accreditation for all 33 programmes, alongside 17 new ones, including Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Mechatronics Engineering, and Fashion Design Technology.

The rector commended Gov. Alex Otti for his massive support to the institution, describing his leadership as forward-looking.
