SMEDAN Trains Business Membership Organisations for Economic Growth in Nigeria

The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) has successfully conducted training sessions aimed at empowering Business Membership Organisations (BMOs) and trade associations to enhance business development and service provision, driving economic growth in the nation.

During a capacity-building event held in Kano on Wednesday, SMEDAN’s Director General, Charles Odii, emphasized the critical role of such training in facilitating sustainable economic growth. Represented by Jafar Bashir, the State Manager of SMEDAN, Odii stated that the initiative aims to instigate systematic changes within the business environment to better support small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Themed “Scale Up of Business Membership Organisations, NGOs, and Trade Organisations Business Activities with Business Development Service Providers Intervention,” the training session was designed to pinpoint and address the challenges that impede the growth of small businesses across Nigeria.

Odii highlighted that one of the key objectives of this capacity-building program is to improve service delivery, boost productivity, and enhance the capabilities of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). He underscored the significant contributions of MSMEs to the overall development and growth of the Nigerian economy.

Participants, including Shema’u Abdullahi, Head of the Madafa Women and Youth Development Association, expressed their gratitude for the training. Abdullahi, who operates in the leather industry, identified electricity supply as a major challenge affecting their businesses and urged the Nigerian government to intervene in improving power availability.

This training initiative by SMEDAN marks a pivotal step toward empowering business organizations and fostering a more conducive environment for MSMEs in Nigeria. As government efforts continue to target the growth of the SME sector, the initiative aims to enhance economic stability and job creation throughout the country.
