Delta Arts Entertainment Ltd. Innovates Traditional Theatre with Technology Integration

Lagos, Nigeria – Oluwadamisola Adeyinka, co-founder of Delta Arts Entertainment Ltd., announced that the creative production company is at the forefront of integrating technology into traditional stage performances, all while preserving the heart of live storytelling.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, Adeyinka emphasized the unique authenticity and presence that stage plays offer. “Unlike film, where scenes are edited and controlled, live theatre carries raw energy,” he stated. He highlighted that, with live performances, every line and reaction occurs in real-time, immersing audiences deeply in the narrative.

“Stage plays bring history to life, making abstract concepts both engaging and real,” he added. “You don’t just read about a king’s struggles; you witness his decisions, dilemmas, and consequences firsthand.”

Despite the profound impact of live performances, Adeyinka noted that younger audiences often favor short, fast-paced content, which can pose a challenge for cultural stage plays aiming to capture their attention. In response, his production company is adopting a digital-first marketing approach as it prepares to premiere its upcoming play, “Ese Oba,” in April.

This strategy includes the incorporation of interactive elements designed to transform theatre into an event rather than just a show. “We’re utilizing teaser thrillers and other interactive components to engage the audience even before they enter the theatre,” Adeyinka explained. “This approach is proving effective, drawing in both seasoned theatre lovers and a younger demographic seeking fresh cultural experiences.”

He believes that presenting cultural theatre in an innovative and engaging manner can reignite interest among younger audiences. “If we refresh our cultural offerings, like we are doing with ‘Ese Oba,’ we can spark a resurgence,” he noted.

Adeyinka added that the integration of technology does not mean disregarding the immersive experience of live performances. “When audiences realize they’ll only experience this particular performance once, their engagement level rises,” he said. The company plans to utilize Virtual Reality (VR), allowing audiences to step into the world of the play before or after attending. Additionally, live streaming options are being considered for those unable to attend in person.

“VR streaming allows for real-time broadcasting of virtual reality content, providing unique immersive experiences,” he explained.

While Adeyinka sees potential for technology to enhance the live theatre experience, he cautioned that it should never replace its core essence. He also noted a growing trend of young people rediscovering their cultural roots through various mediums, such as fashion, music, and digital content, suggesting that there is hope for a revival of interest in cultural performances.
