An Ilorin-based lawyer, Mr. Omotayo Abel, has cautioned Nigerians planning to travel abroad to be wary of fake and fraudulent travel agents who exploit social media to find victims.
Abel gave the warning in Ilorin on Friday during an interview.
He noted that many Nigerians seeking better opportunities abroad had fallen victim to such fraudulent agents.
“There are many of them deceiving people online. They will appear real but deceive desperate Nigerians seeking to relocate abroad for greener pastures.
“It is advisable that you go through the right channels, don’t rush to believe every advertisement on social media.
“Stop doing business with self-acclaimed agents who are fake. Their plan is to defraud you and run away.
“It is advisable to visit embassies and immigration offices to ask questions rather than fall into the hands of fake agents,” he said.
The lawyer also urged the public to avoid desperation when planning to travel abroad.
