Rivers Sole Administrator Pledges Commitment to Peace and Stability
Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd), the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, has reaffirmed his dedication to fostering peace and stability across the region. Speaking at a media briefing on Thursday, Ibas emphasized that his primary focus is ensuring the well-being and security of the people of Rivers.
“My responsibility is primarily to guarantee stability, peace, security, and the overall welfare of Rivers people,” Ibas stated. He acknowledged that his decision to take on this role stemmed not from personal ambition but from a profound commitment to the state’s prosperity and harmony.
Addressing the ongoing political crisis that has deepened divisions within the state, Ibas noted that the prolonged impasse has severely hindered governance and democratic institutions. “The situation has threatened security and undermined the socio-economic fabric of the state,” he remarked, underlining his determination to confront these pressing challenges.
As a native of the Niger Delta, Ibas stated that he cannot turn a blind eye to the current realities. He called upon the people of Rivers to remain law-abiding and optimistic, urging them to set aside differences and collaborate in rebuilding trust and restoring stability.
“The task ahead requires the collective effort of every stakeholder in Rivers, including elders, political leaders, traditional rulers, faith leaders, youth, women, media, and civil society,” he added. “I extend my hand of fellowship to every son and daughter of the state, regardless of their political affiliations or backgrounds.”
Ibas expressed confidence that Rivers State would regain its status as the oil and gas capital of Nigeria and Africa. He further cautioned against the destruction of national infrastructure under the guise of agitation, asserting that such actions are detrimental to national growth.
“We will not act arbitrarily, but we will enforce the law when necessary. Let there be no doubt: we will uphold justice and fairness while ensuring civil order prevails,” he declared. He also urged security agencies to remain neutral and respect citizens’ rights, advising them to avoid actions that could escalate tensions within the community.
