The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) has commenced the distribution of 80,000 10kg bags of rice to vulnerable residents in Lagos State as part of its nationwide palliative initiative.
Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, represented by the Group’s Executive Director, Hajiya Marya Dangote, announced that this donation is part of a broader effort to distribute over one million 10kg bags of rice to one million vulnerable Nigerians across the 774 local government areas of the country.
Speaking at the distribution flag-off in Alausa, Dangote emphasized that this initiative reflects the foundation’s commitment to compassion and solidarity, aimed at easing the economic burden on struggling communities. He further noted that the rice distribution complements the foundation’s existing daily bread distribution program in Lagos.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, praised Dangote for his continuous humanitarian efforts. He acknowledged the ADF’s consistency in providing relief to Lagosians, especially during the Ramadan and Lent seasons, which emphasize charity and giving.
Sanwo-Olu highlighted that the foundation’s focus on social welfare over profit is commendable and urged other wealthy Nigerians to follow Dangote’s example.
“Aliko Dangote is a Nigerian who has chosen to make a difference. You had choices, but you made the right one—caring for the vulnerable. We appreciate his continuous support, especially during these tough economic times,” he said.
The Governor further stated that the rice distribution aligns with Lagos State’s Ounje Eko Food Initiative, which provides subsidized food to residents across local government areas.
Beyond food distribution, Dangote reaffirmed the Group’s commitment to nutrition and food fortification. He noted that Dangote Group has invested in iodized salt, vitamin A-fortified sugar, and fortified staples such as rice, wheat, and bouillon cubes to improve national nutrition standards.
“At the Aliko Dangote Foundation, we believe that access to nutritious food is not just a basic human right but a critical factor in good health and economic prosperity. By providing these food items, we are not just addressing hunger—we are investing in the long-term well-being of our communities,” Dangote added.
The Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Dangote Fertilizer Plant, both located in Lagos, further underline the Group’s deep-rooted investment in the state’s economic and social development.
As the ADF continues its food relief efforts nationwide, Nigerians are encouraged to embrace the spirit of giving and communal support.
