The Tony Okocha-led faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has issued a stern ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, demanding his resignation or face impeachment.
Speaking at a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, Okocha addressed the ongoing political crisis in the state, particularly in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling.
He emphasized that the ruling had serious implications for the governor and insisted that stepping down was the only dignified option left for Fubara to avoid the embarrassment of impeachment.
“As a political party, we are advising the governor to either resign or be impeached. Those are his only two choices. He has disrespected the President despite our warnings, and now we have reached a decisive point,” Okocha declared.
He dismissed Fubara’s invitation to lawmakers as a “Greek gift,” arguing that it was legally irrelevant and long overdue.
“The governor invited trouble upon himself, and now he must face the consequences. I had warned him that those urging him on would eventually abandon him, and here we are,” he added.
Okocha further stated that the Rivers State House of Assembly would have no difficulty initiating impeachment proceedings against Fubara, as the Supreme Court ruling had already provided ample justification.
He also issued a warning to those threatening to disrupt oil facilities in protest against the governor’s potential impeachment, cautioning that such actions would only bring hardship and environmental devastation.
