The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has issued a stern ultimatum to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, demanding his resignation within 48 hours or he will face impeachment proceedings.

Chief Tony Okocha, the Chairman of APC Rivers, made the announcement during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, emphasizing that the recent Supreme Court judgment should be respected and implemented fully.

Okocha criticized Governor Fubara’s invitation to Assembly members, led by Martins Amaewhule, for discussions, deeming it a “punitive” measure. He noted that the governor was aware of the Assembly’s scheduled session on March 10 before calling for the meeting regarding the Supreme Court ruling.

He recounted that Fubara’s invitation to the Assembly was centered around discussions on their remuneration, workspace, and budget matters rather than prioritizing the Supreme Court’s decision. Okocha asserted that it was inappropriate for the governor to summon the Assembly for such discussions instead of presenting the state budget as required.

He further stated that Fubara has consistently neglected the eight-point peace agenda set forth by President Bola Tinubu, the leader of the APC, calling this disregard an affront to both the president and the party.

“The APC, as the opposition party in the state, will not sit idly by while Governor Fubara disobeys the directives of Mr. President; that is an insult to us,” Okocha declared. “We demand that Governor Fubara resign within 48 hours or face impeachment. The Supreme Court’s findings are significant enough for him to step down; he is currently sitting on a powder keg.”

Okocha concluded his remarks by commending the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly for their steadfastness amid the ongoing political turmoil.
