President Bola Tinubu has described the simultaneous observance of Lent and Ramadan this year as a testament to Nigeria’s unity in diversity.
In a statement personally signed by him on Thursday, Tinubu extended his heartfelt wishes to Christians as they commenced the 2025 Lenten season.
“This year’s Lent, a time of devotion and reflection for Christians, coincides with the holy month of Ramadan for Muslims, a season that similarly emphasizes devotion, sacrifice, and acts of kindness,” he said.
The President noted that this period of spiritual reflection aligns with positive developments in the country. He highlighted economic growth recorded at the end of 2024, along with declining food prices, a stabilizing exchange rate, lower fuel prices, and strengthened internal security.
He commended the efforts of security and law enforcement agencies in improving national stability, expressing hope for continued progress.
Tinubu urged Christians to embrace the teachings of Jesus Christ by showing compassion and empathy to those around them. He prayed that as they observed Lent with penitence and devotion, God’s kindness would bring healing to the sick and prosperity and peace to the nation.
“May we experience God’s goodness in a profound way this Lenten season. May He renew our hearts, strengthen our faith, and guide us on righteousness,” he concluded.
