A Kuje Magistrate’s Court, Abuja, on Tuesday, sentenced a trader to two weeks in Kuje Correctional Centre for mischief and theft of iron rods worth N3 million.

The convicts, Gabriel Peter of Gose Toga area on Airport Road, Abuja, in tears, pleaded guilty to the charges and begged the court for leniency.

Peter told the court that his parents were late and he just came to Abuja not too long ago.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Ammam convicted and sentenced the convict following his  guilty plea to the charges of criminal trespass, mischief and theft.

Ammam, however, gave the convict an option of N4,000 fine in the alternative because the convict was a first time offender.

He warned him to desist from committing crime in the future

Earlier, the Prosecuting Counsel, Simon Yako told the court that the convict committed the offence at Royal Home Estate, Airport Road, Abuja on Feb. 21

Yako said that the matter was reported at the Iddo Police Station on the same date.

He said that the convict criminally trespassed into the estate without the consent of anybody and vandalised  the estate  windows.

He said that the convict destroyed the estate windows and made away with the iron rods worth N3 million.

Yako told the court that while the convict was leaving the estate with the iron rods,he was caught by the estate security men and handed over to the police for investigation.

The prosecutor said that during police interrogation and investigation some of the  vandalised items were recovered from the convict

Yako said that the offences contravened Sections  343, 327 and 287 of the Penal Code.
