A 27-year old man, Akeju Daniel, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly defrauding a woman of N13.9 million

Daniel, whose address was not disclosed, is being charged with conspiracy, fraud and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Cpl. Akeem Akinloye, told the court that the defendant and others now at large, committed the offences on April 3, 2024, at the Orita Challenge Area, Ibadan.

Akinloye said that Daniel collected the sum of N13.9 million from the complainant, Olaitan Tajudeen, under the pretext of procuring a Canadian visa for her.

The prosecutor said that the defendant collected the money and converted it to his personal use.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 309, 419 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 57.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N3.5million, with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi said that one of the sureties must own a landed property, while the other must be a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the matter untill August 5, for hearing.
