The Bench Pathways Charity Initiative, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) says there is a need to tailor learning contents to match students’ individual needs.
The Founder of the NGO, Mr Enoch Alonge, said this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Lagos.
Speaking on the 2025 International Day of Education (IDE), Alonge said access to digital learning and AI could also help transform education and foster inclusivity, particularly for those who lacked access to traditional education.
NAN reports that IDE is observed annually on Jan. 24 to celebrate the role of education in promoting peace, development and human rights.
Also, the day aims to raise awareness about the importance of education, promote inclusive and equitable education, and encourage governments and organisations to invest in education.
The theme of 2025 IDE is: ”Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation”.
The 2025 celebration seeks to encourage reflections on the power of education to equip individuals and communities to navigate, understand and influence technological advancement.
Emphasising its benefits, Alonge, who is also a digital and business process expert, said AI had the ability to extend educational opportunities to the less privileged or those who lacked formal learning.
“This ensures that learning becomes more inclusive, addressing the unique challenges faced by students across diverse backgrounds.
“Students that are physically and mentally challenged, are able to be included, and receive education according to their individual needs and pace of learning.”
Alonge, however, said human educators and trainers were essential for nurturing critical thinking, creativity and emotional intelligence.
He said AI systems required continuous oversight and judgement from educators, adding that human agents had a vital role to play in ensuring that systems did not perpetuate biases or compromise data privacy.
He urged institutions to promote digital education, not only for the girl-child and boy-child, but to foster inclusivity for persons living with disabilities.
