An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, remanded of a 38-year-old man, Olasunkanmi Francis, in the Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling a minor.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is being tried for alleged rape.
The prosecutor, Insp Elijah Adejare, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Dec 23, 2024 at Efon Alaaye-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant defiled a 13-year-old girl.
Adejare told the court that the defendant allegedly lured the minor into an uncompleted building and defiled her while she was on an errand.
According to him, the offence contravenes Section 31 of the Child Right Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
The plea of the defendant was, however, not taken.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Kehinde Awosika, ordered the remand of the defendant in the correctional centre, pending issuance of legal advice.
The case was adjourned until Feb. 7 for mention.
