The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Mr Ahmed Musa, has assured the residents of peaceful and secure Christmas as well as New Year celebrations, while extending his goodwill to the Christian faithful in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Ahmad Rufai, in Sokoto.
Rufai stated that the police, in collaboration with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders, were committed to ensuring a safe and hitch-free festive season.
“We reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding lives and property before, during, and after the celebrations.
“To this end, the Commissioner of Police has deployed sufficient personnel, including conventional police and tactical teams, equipped with the necessary logistics to secure strategic locations across the state,” he said.
Rufai added that all the officers assigned to the operation have been instructed to maintain a professional and courteous approach while executing their duties effectively.
He added that Area Commanders, Departmental Heads, and Divisional Police Officers have been directed to conduct both overt and covert security operations to protect lives and property.
“Security will be provided at all places of worship and recreational centres, with proactive measures in place at identified trouble spots,” Rufai added.
He urged the residents to report emergencies or suspicious activities before, during, and after the festive period by visiting the nearest police station or calling the emergency numbers: 08032345167 and 08032861946.
Rufai emphasised that the public’s cooperation and vigilance were crucial in ensuring a peaceful festive season for all.
