The management of Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) has given awards to outstanding members of staff to spur an efficient and proactive workforce to deliver the hospital’s mandate.
The awards ceremony took place on Saturday in Jos at the hospital’s 2024 End of Year Dinner and Awards Night.
Dr Pokop Buptwada, Chief Medical Director (CMD) of JUTH, said that the initiative was aimed at eliciting the best from the staff.
“It is very important to reward the excellence, hard work, dedication, and commitment to duty of members of staff of this great institution that have distinguished themselves in the course of discharging their duties.
“When you reward people for their diligence to duty, it spurs them to give their best, and it also motivates the other members of staff to thrive in the discharge of their duties,” he said.
Buptwada, said the awards, were given in two categories: merit and long service awards.
He said the merit award was strictly performance-based, while the long service award was awarded to members of staff who had served for 32 years and above.
According to him, a merit committee, chaired by Prof. Aboy Madaki, was constituted to do the selections.
The CMD commended the workforce of JUTH and urged them not to rest on their oars in executing their duties effectively and efficiently.
Plateau Commissioner for Health, Dr Cletus Shurkuk, in his goodwill message, described the event as “highly commendable” as it would encourage the members of staff to be proactive in the discharge of their duties.
Similarly, Prof. Tanko Ishaya, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jos, commended the CMD of JUTH for appreciating the members of staff, saying it would serve as a motivation to them.
11 members of staff were given awards for their outstanding performance in the merit category, while 25 others were for long service category.
