Port Harcourt, Rivers State – The Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has reassured citizens that his administration will not impose additional taxes and levies on them, citing a desire to avoid exacerbating their financial burdens.

Fubara made this statement during the opening of the 156th Joint Tax Board Meeting in Port Harcourt, which brought together stakeholders from across the country to discuss revenue generation and management.

While acknowledging the need to broaden the tax base to increase revenue for the state, Fubara emphasized his administration’s commitment to finding alternative solutions that do not disproportionately affect the people.

“We are not going to impose new taxes and levies on our citizens. We want to make sure that we are not adding to their problems,” Fubara said.

Also speaking at the event was the Executive Chairman of Rivers State Internal Revenue Service, Chibeoso Aholu, who expressed optimism that the Joint Tax Board Meeting would provide a platform for policymakers to develop effective strategies for improving revenue generation at all levels of government.

The meeting is expected to attract participants from various states and federal agencies, as well as tax experts and other stakeholders, who will share experiences and best practices in tax administration and revenue management.
