MOSOP Reaffirms Commitment to Ogoni Resource Rights and Reconciliation at National Congress
Bori, Khana Local Government Area – The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), under the leadership of Fegalo Nsuke, has reiterated its dedication to the community’s rights to natural resources and ongoing reconciliation efforts. This reaffirmation came during the National Congress held at the MOSOP National Secretariat at the Peace and Freedom Centre in Bori.
The delegates at the congress expressed their unwavering support for Fegalo Nsuke by passing a vote of confidence in his leadership as MOSOP President. They resolved to pursue negotiations for a 20 percent stake in the natural resource extraction from Ogoni territory, a move aimed at ensuring the community benefits directly from its rich resources.
In addition to resource rights, the congress emphasized the need for compensation for livelihood losses stemming from decades of oil pollution that have devastated the region’s environment and economy. The adverse effects of oil extraction have been deeply felt in Ogoni, leading to urgent calls for redress.
To promote unity among stakeholders, including those with differing viewpoints, the congress established a resolution committee tasked with fostering dialogue and collaboration.
Fegalo Nsuke stated, “The resolutions adopted today represent a significant step forward in our ongoing struggle for justice, unity, and the economic rights of the Ogoni people. We are committed to ensuring that our community’s voices are heard and respected in matters concerning our resources.”
The congress concluded with a renewed sense of purpose among delegates, who are determined to advocate for the rights and welfare of the Ogoni people in the face of ongoing challenges.
