The Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Dr Ben Nwoye, has described the recent dissolution of the party’s Ward and Local Government executive committees as a strategic move to rebuild and reposition the party.
The dissolution was announced at the end of a stakeholders’ meeting of the party in Enugu West Senatorial District on Sunday.
Speaking to journalists in Enugu on Monday, Nwoye said the decision followed a directive from the party’s National Working Committee after extensive consultations with key stakeholders at both the national and state levels.
He explained that the move was intended to create a more inclusive and vibrant leadership structure capable of revitalising the party’s grassroots presence.
Nwoye noted that the APC in the state had been weakened by internal divisions, factional disputes, and leadership challenges in recent years, stressing that the new approach would allow the party to rebuild with a unified front ahead of future elections.
“This dissolution is not a punishment; rather, it is a strategic move to rebuild the APC in Enugu State from bottom up.
We want a party structure that truly represents the interests of our members, one that will be inclusive, transparent, and accountable,” he said.
He added that the reconstitution process would soon begin, with credible and grassroots-oriented members being considered for leadership roles at both ward and local government levels.
Nwoye assured party members that the process would be transparent and provide equal opportunities for all willing to serve.
He urged members to remain united, describing the restructuring as a necessary step toward restoring the APC’s influence in Enugu State politics.
“Unity is the foundation for success in any political organisation.
We must come together as one family if we are to make meaningful progress.
APC remains a strong platform for change, and with this new restructuring, we are confident that Enugu State will soon become a stronghold of the party,” he said.
