UN Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed relief following the release of the last living Israeli hostages held in the Gaza Strip on Monday.

Writing on X, Guterres said he was “profoundly relieved” that the individuals, who had endured “immense suffering,” had regained their freedom and would soon reunite with their families.

The UN chief renewed his appeal for the return of the remains of hostages who were killed in Gaza.

He also urged all parties to build on the progress achieved and uphold their commitments under the ceasefire to “end the nightmare” in Gaza.

Guterres reaffirmed that the United Nations supports all efforts aimed at ending the conflict and easing the suffering of civilians.
