France’s Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu, has resigned, the Élysée Palace announced on Monday.
Lecornu submitted his resignation to President Emmanuel Macron, who accepted it, according to the presidential statement.
His departure came less than a month after his appointment and just a day after unveiling key ministerial positions in the new Cabinet.
The leader of the conservative Republicans, Bruno Retailleau, had earlier expressed displeasure with the Cabinet composition and convened a crisis meeting on Monday.
The development fuelled speculation about the conservatives withdrawing from the coalition with Macron’s centrist bloc, which does not hold a parliamentary majority.
Lecornu had been expected to address the National Assembly on Tuesday and announce the remaining Cabinet appointments.
