Nigeria’s Senior Men’s Cricket team on Friday defeated Malawi by nine wickets in their opening match of the ICC T20 Men’s World Cup Africa Qualifier.
Nigeria won the toss and chose to field at the Takasinga Sports Club in Harare, Zimbabwe.
Their bowling attack restricted Malawi to 88 all out in 19.3 overs, with Ridwan Abdulkareem taking three for 24, Chiemelie Udekwe two for 11, and captain Sylvester Okpe one for seven.
In response, Nigeria needed just 11.2 overs to reach 92/1, with Sulaimon Runsewe hitting his first half-century of the tournament.
It was a comfortable chase, securing Nigeria victory by nine wickets.
The team will play Namibia in their next fixture on Sunday.
The eight-team tournament will see the top two qualify for the 2026 World Cup.
