A 38-year-old man, Akosile Opeyemi, was on Friday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged abduction.
The prosecutor, Insp. Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the offence was committed between Aug. 24 and Aug. 29 in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that Opeyemi abducted one Jennifer Sunday, who had been declared missing for a period of time before being found in the defendant’s residence.
Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 155 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021, and asked the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The defendant’s plea was not taken.
Counsel to the defendant, Mrs Adunni Olanipekun, urged the court to grant bail, assuring that her client would not abscond.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, after reviewing the defendant’s confessional statement, granted bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the matter until Nov. 3 for mention.
