Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State has approved a bill seeking to outlaw same-sex marriage and other immoral practices in the state.

The bill, to be transmitted to the State House of Assembly, prohibits same-sex marriage as well as practices such as Madugo and Liwadi (lesbianism and homosexualism).

In a statement issued on Friday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, said Yusuf gave the approval during the 31st Executive Council meeting at the Government House, Kano.

He explained that the governor stressed the bill’s objective was to safeguard Kano’s cultural and religious values.

According to him, Yusuf warned that offenders would face strict legal consequences if the bill is passed into law, reaffirming the government’s resolve to protect the state’s moral integrity.
