Barcelona-based startup Altan is reimagining how software is created, developing technology that allows applications to build and run themselves. The company has secured $2.5 million in pre-seed funding to grow its platform and expand its lean seven-person team.
Altan’s system uses AI agents, each with specific roles such as user experience design, database engineering, or full-stack development. Instead of writing lines of code, users simply describe what they need in text or voice, and the AI automatically creates a working application within hours. This makes the platform especially attractive to small businesses and entrepreneurs without access to in-house engineers.
Despite being founded only in 2023, Altan has already attracted around 25,000 users, including startups and non-technical founders exploring how autonomous AI can solve their software needs. Its pricing begins at $25 per month, giving small companies and individuals a way to experiment with custom solutions at low cost.
The investment round was led by VentureFriends and JME Ventures, alongside 4Founders Ventures and notable angel investors like Carles Reina of ElevenLabs. Backers see promise in the startup’s approach, which taps into the fast-growing space of agentic AI—systems designed to handle entire projects or workflows without constant human intervention.
Altan’s rise underscores a major shift in technology. Software development, once reserved for trained programmers, is becoming increasingly accessible to anyone with an idea. By removing barriers and automating complex steps, the company hopes to make custom applications as easy to request as a web search. The challenge now is proving that its model can scale reliably and compete with human-built systems. With strong investor confidence and early adoption, Altan is positioning itself as a leader in the new era of self-running software.
