Florida State University freshman linebacker Ethan Pritchard remains in critical but stable condition after being shot in the head in what investigators now believe was a case of mistaken identity. The incident happened on August 31 in Havana, Florida, while Pritchard was visiting family.
Authorities say Pritchard was driving with his aunt and a young child when their car was targeted in a drive-by shooting. Investigators believe the attackers mistook the vehicle for another one linked to a previous shooting earlier in the week. Pritchard was struck by gunfire while doing nothing wrong, according to law enforcement.
On September 10, officials announced four arrests connected to the attack. Jayden Bodison, 22, Caron Miller, 18, and a 16-year-old juvenile were each charged with three counts of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle. A fourth man, Germany Atkins, 23, was arrested on a probation violation unrelated to the shooting.
The Florida State football community has rallied in support of Pritchard. Head coach Mike Norvell and teammates have expressed solidarity, with messages of encouragement flooding social media. A GoFundMe campaign launched to help with medical costs and family expenses has also gained traction as fans and supporters come together.
Pritchard, a promising freshman, had just begun his college football career before the tragic incident. His situation has cast a shadow over the team’s early season but has also strengthened their sense of unity. For now, his family and supporters are holding onto hope for his recovery while justice proceeds against those accused of the crime.
