Professor of Ophthalmology, Bernice Adegbeyingbe, has assumed office as the new Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun State.
She took over from Professor Babatope Kolawole, who completed his two-year tenure on Thursday.
At the handover ceremony, Adegbeyingbe expressed appreciation to the outgoing provost, as well as staff and students of the college.
She described her appointment as both a significant honour and a solemn responsibility to guide the institution for the next two years.
The new provost pledged that her administration would uphold values such as excellence in research, innovation, teaching, mentoring, transparency, integrity, and unwavering dedication.
“All hands must be on deck to advancing human help through cutting hedge scientific, innovation with true healthcare delivery and impactful committing engagement,” she said.
She emphasised the importance of improving lives through high-quality healthcare education and service delivery.
“My ambition is to provide an enabling environment for all staff and students, to maintain standard education across all programmes, to ensure a harmonised and consistence academic calendar,” she added.
“My vision is to drive curriculum innovation and to foster inclusion, empathy and resilience. Our graduates are consistently proven to be global trailblasers.”
She stressed the need to embrace advances in teaching, scientific research, technology, and artificial intelligence to sustain the college’s legacy.
Adegbeyingbe called for unity and support from staff, associations, and partners, assuring them of her commitment to elevating the college’s stature.
In his remarks, the outgoing provost, Kolawole, thanked God and the college alumni, especially those in the diaspora, who made significant contributions to the college’s development.
He also acknowledged his predecessors for laying the foundation that has supported the college’s steady growth.
Present at the event were former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, OAUTHC management, principal officers, researchers, lecturers, staff, and students.
