The University of Port Harcourt recently hosted His Excellency Ambassador Gautier Mignot, the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, for a thought-provoking public lecture on the theme “European Union: A Reliable Partner for Nigeria.”

In his address, Ambassador Mignot emphasized the depth of collaboration between the European Union (EU) and Nigeria across diverse sectors. From trade and commerce to higher education, migration, mobility, digital transformation, and research, the EU has remained a consistent ally in Nigeria’s development journey. Programs such as Erasmus Plus and various joint research initiatives highlight the EU’s commitment to empowering Nigerian students, scholars, and innovators with global opportunities.

Vice Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Owunari Georgewill, praised the lecture as both timely and impactful. He commended Ambassador Mignot for shedding light on the EU–Nigeria partnership and for articulating how these collaborations create mutual benefits that advance progress on both sides.

The event was well attended, drawing participants from academia, government, and civil society, both physically and virtually. The interactive question-and-answer session underscored the high level of interest in strengthening Nigeria–EU ties and provided a platform for meaningful engagement.
