The newly sworn-in Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Area in Rivers, Mr Solomon Abuba, has pledged to discharge his duties with sincerity, humility and dedication.
Abuba made the pledge at the council’s headquarters in Ahoada during the swearing-in of his vice, Mrs Florence Odukwu.
The chairman also inaugurated the Legislative Assembly with the 13 councillors who won seats in the recent local government elections participating to elect their floor functionaries.
Abuba stressed that good governance is vital for development, peace and security at the grassroots, adding that he would not take for granted the confidence reposed in him during the election.
He urged the councillors to work in harmony with the executive arm in advancing the collective interest of the people.
Abuba later announced appointments into key positions, naming Mr Elijah Uwhuetu as Council Secretary, Mr Godstime Egor as Chief of Staff, and Mr Esor Opuwari as Chief Security Officer.
Others appointed were Mr Precious Dogini as Chief Protocol Officer, Mr Moses Hamilton as Chief Press Secretary, and Mr Eze Ake as Legal Adviser to the council.
The Ahoada Legislative Assembly also elected its principal officers, with Mr Marvin Jonah emerging as Leader, Mr Uzoma Miller as Deputy Leader, and Mr Abali Chigozie as Chief Whip.
In his acceptance speech, Jonah thanked his colleagues for the opportunity to serve, promising equal opportunity for members and prioritisation of their welfare.
