The remodelled secretariat of the Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area (LCDA) was officially inaugurated on Friday alongside a newly completed network of roads within the council area.
Speaking at the event, the Principal Secretary to President Bola Tinubu, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, represented by Dr Kolawole Peregrino of the Lagos State Printing Corporation, emphasised the importance of strong grassroots governance in improving the lives of citizens.
He commended the outgoing LCDA Chairman, Mr Fuad Atanda-Lawal, for his leadership and infrastructural achievements over the past eight years, describing him as a “blessing to the community.”
“This is not just the inauguration of a building,” Muri-Okunola said. “It is a symbol of what is possible when leadership is rooted in purpose, people, and progress. The roads we are also opening today will serve as social and economic catalysts for transformation.”
He urged the incoming chairman, Mr Bola Oladunjoye, to build on the foundation laid by his predecessor and continue delivering service that meets the expectations of the people.
In his remarks, Atanda-Lawal reflected on his tenure, describing the new secretariat as a “final message” of his commitment to serve.
“This is not just a remodeled building, it is a symbol of progress. It marks the end of our eight-year journey with a structure that reflects the quality of service our people deserve,” he said.
He noted that the secretariat, once abandoned, had been transformed into a functional edifice with new facilities including an elevator and a conducive work environment.
He also listed the reconstruction of Oluwa Road and Maitama Sule Road among other projects completed under his administration.
Commending Atanda-Lawal, Mr Gbolahan Yishawu, who represents Eti-Osa 2 in the Lagos State House of Assembly, said the LCDA had become a reference point for effective grassroots governance.
Also speaking, Mrs Olateju Philips, Chairman of LASACO Assurance Plc, said the outgoing chairman’s corporate background helped him deliver meaningful change at the local level.
