The District Governor of Rotary International District 9110, Mr. Lanre Adedoyin, has commended the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) under the leadership of Dr. Kayode Opeifa.

Adedoyin gave the commendation during a tour of NRC facilities at its headquarters in Ebute Meta, Lagos, by members of the Rotary Club.

The visit, facilitated by the President of the Rotary Club of Lagos Island, Mr. Lekan Dupeye, highlighted the progress recorded at the NRC, which Adedoyin said reflected the impact of reforms being implemented by the current administration.

During the tour, the team visited the Running Shed and the Railway Technical Institute, where they were received by the institute’s Principal, Mr. Tukur Majus. The visitors were briefed on the institute’s vision and its modern training programmes, which include electrical photovoltaic, carpentry, machine operations, welding, automobile mechanics, and fashion design.

Dupeye, while expressing appreciation for the warm reception, praised the strides made in revitalising the railway sector. He reiterated Rotary’s commitment to vocational training as a tool for national development and proposed the creation of a Rotary hub within NRC premises.

“We also appeal for support towards the upcoming Rotary District Conference in Abeokuta,” he said.

In his response, Dr. Opeifa, a past president of the Rotary Club of Agege, expressed appreciation for the visit and reaffirmed NRC’s openness to collaboration. He outlined key reforms under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which include reconnecting major railway corridors such as Lagos–Kano and Port Harcourt–Maiduguri.

Opeifa also disclosed that the government was expanding freight and cargo services to facilitate trade and logistics while granting states track access to ensure full utilisation of NRC’s infrastructure.

“If the railway dies, Nigeria’s economy will grind to zero. That is why we are optimising what we have and embracing collaborations that drive growth,” he said.
