Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State on Wednesday swore in six new commissioners and a new Head of Service, while also announcing a cabinet reshuffle that affected several ministries.

The newly appointed officials took their Oath of Office at the Government House, Enugu, administered by Ms Chizoba Ogbodo of the Ministry of Justice.

Those sworn in include Mr Godwin Anigbo as Head of Service; Mr Benjamin Okoh, Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure; Prof. Bernadette Okoli, Commissioner for Human Development and Poverty Eradication; and Mr Enyinna Ogbonna, Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources.

Others are Dr Samuel Ogbu-Nwobodo, Commissioner for Trade, Investment, and Industry; Prof. George Ugwu, Commissioner for Health; and Mr Ben Collins Ndu Jr., Commissioner for Water Resources.

In the reshuffle, Dr Felix Nnamani was moved from Water Resources to Labour and Employment; Dr Malachy Agbo was reassigned from Human Development and Poverty Eradication to the Ministry of Information; and Mr Gerald Otiji, previously Works Commissioner, now oversees the Ministry of Housing.

Addressing the appointees, Governor Mbah urged them to “hit the ground running,” noting that there would be no grace period for settling in.

“In Enugu, we have raised expectations so high that it feels as though we present a scorecard daily,” Mbah said. “You must immediately align with the administration’s pace and objectives.”

He also emphasized teamwork as a core value of his administration.

“We do not encourage working in silos. You must see each other not as rivals, but as collaborators. Our progress so far is the result of collective effort, not individual heroism,” he added.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, Dr Ogbu-Nwobodo thanked the governor for the opportunity and pledged their commitment.

“We are grateful for this trust and assure you that we will uphold our oath, serve with dedication, and contribute meaningfully to the remarkable success your administration is already known for,” he said.

Present at the ceremony were Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Chief of Staff Mr Victor Udeh, and other top government officials, along with the spouses of the new appointees.

Meanwhile, NAN reports that four commissioners were dropped from the cabinet: Mrs Adaora Chukwu (Trade and Investment), Mr Chika Ugwuoke (Labour), Dr Ikechukwu Obi (Health), and Dr Martin Chukwunwike, who now serves as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
